“The bathroom and kitchen have windows, but it still feels really stuffy and hot, and honestly kind of depressing to be in there. Staying here makes me feel cut off from other people and the outside world. In the kitchen it’s so warm that I can’t really spend any time there, and there’s no window I can open to cool things down or clear out the smell from whatever was cooked last.”

“We had to get our freezer replaced and our shower fixed, and the whole process was really slow. They took a long time to get back to us and to follow up about maintenance problems. We often ended up waiting days for things like that. And honestly, a freezer that stops working and a shower issue are big problems. Given what we pay, it should not be happening this often. Before we even moved in, there was already a major mould problem in both bedrooms and the bathroom. We tried to tackle it ourselves, but it still spread further. After moving in, I started having trouble breathing, which I had not had before. The support we got was very disappointing. We mostly just received emails telling us to ventilate the rooms, but that did nothing to actually fix the problem. In the end, I had to go out and buy my own mould treatments.”

“There’s still less mould, but I really wish there was some kind of rule about loud music after 10pm. I’ve had neighbours who blast loud rock music at 3am, sometimes every single day for weeks straight.”

“The kitchen and bathroom get plenty of natural light and airflow. There’s also a shared space, like a proper living room. But when the place doesn’t offer even the most basic amenities, it really starts to take a toll on your mental health.”
