“There’s a lot of noise and construction going on, but they’ve added more storage space.”
“More chances to hang out with people, either inside the house or with residents from other houses.”
“I think the weekday meal times should be longer, and the staff in the dining halls need to be more friendly. I’ve actually been told I was unhygienic, and from my experience they came across as rude. It also felt like they singled out certain students and then treated them badly. For instance, in the mornings everyone goes to the dining hall in their pajamas because that’s basically what you’re wearing where you live, so it should feel like home. I went in dressed like that and got told it was “unhygienic.” The thing is, I had my coat on, and that coat has been kept cleaner than my inside bed clothes, which I’m sure are no less hygienic than what I was wearing. It just felt really rude and honestly kind of scary and embarrassing, especially in front of my friends. They also didn’t really explain things to us clearly beforehand. They didn’t show us how the dining hall process works when we first arrived, and they didn’t make the rules obvious from the start. Instead, they seemed to expect us to already know everything, like we weren’t allowed to sit at more than a table of four, that we needed to sanitize, how to queue, and what we were supposed to wear. When we were unsure, they got angry, like we’d been told repeatedly already. To me, it felt less like they were doing something necessary and more like they were on a power trip. If they really wanted it to go smoothly, they should have made the signs clearer and shared the rules in advance, maybe by putting an email or a leaflet through everyone’s door so we all knew how to use the canteen. Other than that, it’s good, and it’s not like all staff are like that. It’s just some of them.”
“The showers are pretty cramped and not very pleasant.”
