“The water system is a lot better, because before we sometimes didn’t have water at all, and when we did, it wasn’t warm.”

“The place is in a really good spot. I can walk back after a night out, and getting to the University of Bristol takes me under 20 minutes on foot. But everything else about the accommodation is pretty disappointing. My flatmates and I frequently end up without hot water, and sometimes we do not even get any water at all. The courtyard design seems to carry sound really well, so even normal conversations feel like they are happening right outside my window on the fifth floor. The bedrooms and kitchen are also badly ventilated, which means mould builds up at worrying levels and cooking smells do not clear properly. Since I moved in, it has honestly made me feel unwell and stressed. There is hardly any outdoor space either. On top of all that, it costs more than any other self-catered option I have heard about from friends around the city, coming to about £9,800 for the year.”
“My experience at Campbell House has been pretty average overall. I honestly got lucky though, because I met some amazing people there, and I’m planning to live with them again next year. That said, the place is ridiculously expensive, and based on what you actually get, I can’t really say it’s worth the money. My room is extremely small, and the sink drain often has a nasty smell. The ventilation is bad, and a lot of the kitchen appliances barely function properly. Even in the fridge, water ends up collecting on the shelf. The hot water is also all over the place. More than once, it has been pouring with rain and I’ve been freezing, just desperate for a hot shower, only to find there’s no hot water at all. Sometimes the shower will start fine and then, halfway through, the water just cuts off completely. None of that feels acceptable for nearly ten thousand pounds. After visiting other, cheaper places like Goldney or Manor Hall, I’ve been pretty disappointed with Campbell House. The one thing it does have going for it is the location. It’s about as close to the university as you can get, there are two supermarkets nearby, and there are gyms around too. Also, the gym inside Campbell House is pretty decent, as long as it’s not too busy.”
“The odor coming up from the drains in the kitchen and bathroom is absolutely unbearable.”
“The movement feels quicker once you’re on flat ground.”
“The kitchen is shared, but there are fewer people using it.”
