“The kitchen is really cramped and there aren’t any windows, so it gets quite hot.”
“I’m paying £145 a week for a single bed, in a room that feels really outdated, and there’s basically no flat space to speak of.”
“The room itself was really tiny, especially when you look at what you’re paying. The way the price changes depending on the room size felt like a total joke. In general, the accommodation prices creep up a little each year, but the standard stays the same. I know that because my friends lived in the halls a few years back. And when I compare it to my sister’s place in Newcastle, where she paid 16 pounds less, she had a bigger, more modern room than I did.”
“The bedroom is bigger. But that smaller room with the en-suite feels way too cramped, because when you open the toilet door it ends up bumping into the bed.”
“The kitchen has no windows and no ventilation, so cooking in the summer is pretty much unbearable. And there really aren’t any shared spaces to hang out in apart from the kitchen. It would be great if there was a small lounge area outside the kitchen, maybe with some sofas, so people could socialise somewhere else.”
“The staff wouldn’t just show up or knock on the door. They’d email us a few days ahead of time to let us know.”
