“I’d suggest you consider putting students in houses based on where they’re from. Right now I have a lot of London students, and honestly they barely talk. They’re also pretty messy. Most of them are guys, and they don’t really mix with anyone. For me, it’s not the worst thing, but when you ask whether there’s a real sense of community, the answer is no. I’ve tried a lot to get them involved, like making an effort to bond and creating a more homey atmosphere, but they just don’t interact at all. We even tried celebrating our housemates’ birthdays, and they still didn’t take part. So there’s basically no participation in any community aspect. Everyone just stays in their rooms. I think this could be improved by assigning rooms to students with similar backgrounds, so they feel more comfortable with each other. I personally feel like they’re not comfortable with me either, even though I’ve tried to reach out. It’s not a huge problem, but the point I’m making is that the survey question was really just a suggestion for improvement.”
