“The common areas take up more space than the individual bedrooms, and those are pretty tiny.”
“The doors slam pretty loudly, and it’s hard to change that, but the noise is there all day long.”
“The cleaners handle the kitchen visits for sweeping and mopping, and honestly the freshers don’t really pay attention to stuff like that.”
“People keep tossing food around in the communal corridors and lifts. It’s not great when I can’t take the stairs, and there are rats out because of it.”
“Every once in a while, the laundry in B block just stops working, and then none of the machines will start for a day or so. It would be great if that would not happen. (:”
“More shared spaces for everyone in the whole block”
“First off, I’ve found that the water takes forever to go down in the bathroom, especially in the shower. Also, the bathroom floor doesn’t seem to have adequate drainage. Because of that, it’s pretty hard to keep the sink and toilet area looking clean and organized.”
“In most apartments, the shower drain is clogged, so when you’re in the shower the water starts to rise. They haven’t sorted it out yet. On top of that, there’s also a lot of dust that’s built up around the buildings.”
“A lasting fix for the cookers that keep shutting off.”
“I don’t think the university should bother advertising a “quiet block” for postgraduate students, because it doesn’t really make any difference when it’s surrounded by lots of other buildings that are full of loud students. They shout all day and keep music going through the night, and nothing seems to be done about it. On top of that, the staff who empty the industrial bins come at random times, like 1am or 5am, which is incredibly disruptive. And then there’s ongoing construction from other blocks, so it’s noisy even when you’re trying to get some peace. My health has genuinely got much worse since moving into university accommodation, mainly because of how little sleep I’ve been getting. I’m on a really demanding course and I also have placement hours that mean I need to be in Lincoln. I’ve struggled to focus and, because of that, I’ve ended up losing money by having to travel back up to Birmingham every four days just so I can finally sleep properly and actually finish my assignments.”
